Sarpino’s Pizzeria: Emails & Social Media

Sarpino’s Pizzeria is a pizza franchise with locations across the U.S. Working with a writer, I designed emails and social media posts for the chain to send to subscribers on a weekly basis, featuring new their pizzas in a playful and bold way.

One of the principal concerns from the client was to communicate to their audiences that they use exclusively fresh ingredients. We decided to get this idea across by playfully placing cut out images of fresh ingredients in raw and unprocessed forms, using them in the email design composition.

Working within a simple color palette, the challenge was to use doodles to create visual excitement, and, where applicable, to create vignettes to emphasize a deal or pizza type. We wanted our titles in an exciting brush script that would work well side-by-side with all the doodles, yet above all, remain easily readable. I went through about 30 brush script typefaces until I found one with the right balance.

EMAILS

These emails required food photography retouching, both on product photography and the stock photography used for the ingredients, especially when these were side-by-side.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Working with a content creator and a writer, we would create a month’s worth of social posts at a time, and then I would begin to design the visual component for each of the posts. Our primary outlet was Instagram, so the posts were square.
