Q39: Holiday Ad & Composite Photo

This is an advertisement for Q39, a successful up-and-comer in the Kansas City barbecue industry. It was published in October and November of 2018, in Feast magazine & 435 magazine.

Photomanipulation

This client didn’t have the budget or the time for a holiday photoshoot, so I was able to use a stock image of a holiday laden table, remove all the food on the dishes, and replace the food with Q39‘s food (from a previous photoshoot).

Left: the original stock image; Right: photoshopped with authentic Q39 on plates

This process was only possible because the food photography I had to work with was taken from this overhead angle. Lots of cutting, filling, and some duplicating were necessary, as was special attention to the angle of the shadows and the highlights. This process used more than 10 separate images and took over 15 hours to create.

7 stages of photomanipulation shown above.
