PKD Foundation: ADPKD Registry Logo

The PKD Foundation is the leading organization in the United States dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for polycystic kidney disease (PKD). PKD is a genetic disorder that causes cysts on the kidneys, which are painful and decrease kidney function. This condition affects about 500,000 people in the United States. Many people with this condition have kidney failure by age 60.

In 2019, the PKD Foundation developed a national registry to gather information for research and clinical trials from patients that have been diagnosed with PKD and their family members, as this disorder is genetic. This project was a logo for the registry that would fit in the PKD Foundation’s family of logos.

Logo Options

Working with the team at Walz Tetrick, we came up a few name and tagline combinations, and I developed logo options that I felt represented the forward momentum, connectivity, and cohesiveness this registry would bring to the PKD community. While developing these ideas, I tried to keep it cohesive with the family of logos already developed for the PKD Foundation, including color palette and typeface choices.

The client liked the way this option’s icon created a contained web of connectivity, and liked it’s circular nature, feeling it fit well within their family of existing logos.

Next, I worked with a motion graphics animator at Bark Productions to create an animated version of the logo for web and video applications.

Branding Guide

I developed a 12-page branding guide booklet to help the PKD Foundation use the logo correctly in all applications.

Fundraising Assets

Working together with a developer, I helped create a branded web page for the registry interface, helping the registrants move from the branded PKD Foundation website into the proprietary, protected, private registry portal. In spite of the registry becoming a bit more “vanilla” after the sign-up page (no more imagery or graphics), we maintained the branding throughout with the tranquil turquoise in the backdrop corner fractals, and the brand presence in the top left corner.

Fundraising Assets

Finally, I developed branded collateral like large checks, water bottles, wrist bands, flyers and other assets for their major fundraisers.
