The American Royal Field Trip is an educational event where elementary students have the opportunity to come experience hands-on learning about agricultural production and the food system. The American Royal Volunteers that lead and guide these field trips wear the same t-shirt to identify themselves easily to the students. While at Walz Tetrick Advertising, I was tasked to design these t-shirts.

Illustrations

I started in Adobe Illustrator, creating elements that I thought represented the many facets of agriculture and food production, including seeds, animals, weather, equipment, and plants. I chose a simple monoline style for the illustrations, which I thought would both appeal to children and be easy and affordable for printing.

Design

Then I laid out the typography for the t-shirt with the American Royal logo. Next, I created a circle around it and filled it with the illustrations I had created. Last, I filled in the space between the illustrations with a simple dots.

T-Shirt

We chose green and yellow colors similar to John Deere Tractor’s in keeping with the agricultural look. We experimented with a 3-color design, but ultimately reduced it to 2 colors to save the client money. The client loved the t-shirt, the volunteers will be wearing this design for a few years.
